I’m Steven and I will be running the Virgin London Marathon on 17th April 2011 in support of British Heart Foundation. It’s a scary thought but I’m determined to see it through and raise lots of money. This blog is a record of the lead up to the day. Details of my training etc and the highs and lows along the way. For friends to read but mainly for me to remind myself why I’m doing it..

You can sponsor me by clicking here to visit my Virgin Giving page...

17.62....phew!

Hi Folks,

Trying to be a bit more committed to this thing now and keep you more up to date.

I did 17.62 miles yesterday and boy did it hurt.  My legs didn't seem to want to move anymore and I nearly gave up after 15 miles but my "power song" came on and pushed me to do the other lap of the park!  I have to confess I did walk quite a bit of the last couple of miles...  The run burned off 2490 calories and I think that is something to do with the fact I felt so knackered.  Losing all that energy and all I had eaten before the run was a banana.  Going to get some Gatorade as recommended by Rob and hopefully my 20 miler on Saturday will be more bearable.

The sponsorship is over £1200 at the minute so that is good news.  Still another 4 weeks of fundrasing to go so I should hit my target in time.  Lots of people have been very generous and it warms my heart.  I know it is a tough time for people at the minute with the recession etc but people still find a way to think of others.  We're not a bad bunch, us humans!!

As ever, thanks to all of you for your sponsorship and messages of support.  I couldn't do this without you all.  It is a really big thing for me to do this.  Those of you who know me will know that!!  I'm having to dig deep into my reserves of determination and drive to get it done.  I'm excited about the day but I won't pretend that there isn't a big part of me that is looking forward to the finish line!  I'll keep up with the running but I don't know if I'll see those distances again when it's over...

Thanks again.

Steven x
