I’m Steven and I will be running the Virgin London Marathon on 17th April 2011 in support of British Heart Foundation. It’s a scary thought but I’m determined to see it through and raise lots of money. This blog is a record of the lead up to the day. Details of my training etc and the highs and lows along the way. For friends to read but mainly for me to remind myself why I’m doing it..

Progress....

Hey,

Right - 9 weeks to go now and I think I'm on track.  I didn't manage to get a good run on the beach when I was at home as the weather was abysmal (?) but i've still been putting in the hours at the gym etc.

I have got this amazing app on my phone called Runkeeper which tracks you via GPS and keeps a record of calories burned, distance and time and a few other useful things.  I got out for my 1st decent run yesterday morning.  Managed 5 miles by running around the perimeter of Greenwich Park a couple of times.  I did it in 58 mins 40 seconds, which, as I had no time to beat, is my best time so far.  It gives me something to beat for the next one ;-). This app also lets you publish to Facebook so I'll do that each time to ensure I don't embarrass myself by not beating previous times or running lesser distances.

Rest day today so I'm going home to put my feet up!!

Keep on running....

Morning!

First of all thanks to all of you who have sponsored me so far.  I'm now up to £616 as I type this so I'm delighted.  Still a way to go but I'm sure I'll get there.

I've got the hamstring problem sorted out now so there is nothing holding the training back.  I was out doing a hill session with Rob in Greenwich Park at 6.00am today and that went well so I'm pleased with that.  I've had a bit of a dodgy back for the last couple of weeks but it hasn't interfered with training as it only seems to be a problem when I sit or lie down so at least it's working in my favour.

Off to see the family in Portstewart this weekend and I've packed my running shoes etc for a run up the beach.  It's 2 miles long so I'll slip the headphones in (unless Amy, my brother's girlfriend, fancies joining me!) and run like the wind.  Probably in the wind and rain but it'll be good training!

Oh, I've also lost 8lbs as of last Saturday so well on the way to reaching my target weight by race day.  I'll just have to make sure that I don't drink too much this weekend and ruin it all.

When I get back I'll be getting out round the streets of South East London or Greenwich Park, so, if you see me, say hi!
